Design Objective
Creating an assistive lift device for bariatric patients.

What Did I Do?

I collaborated with a team of 5 women in STEM to identify a white space market opportunity and develop and innovative product. In the development process, we conducted stakeholder, competitor product, and prior art analyses, identified issued for nurses, insurance companies and bariatric patients themselves.

Mission Statement

To develop a lift device that reduces strain on healthcare professionals when lifting bariatric patients while prioritizing patient comfort and care.

Components and attachment of design

The Design

The Bariatric Sling design is an assistive device that attaches to the any patient lift to help nurses lift bariatric patients with ease.

The design uses hospital gowns for the main sling component. The sling has neck, arm, and leg support attachments for more support. The material is polyester mesh fabric, providing the strength, hygiene, lightweight and breathability properties.
